Four Things to Look For In A Company As An Employee

I have been working for almost 5 years now. I have been with 3 companies in those 5 years as of this writing. There are a couple of things I learned in order for me to at least stay working with a company and I’m going to share them with you.

Here are the four things I look for in a company:

Great People

It is hard to leave a company if the people there are already close to you. People are an important factor in a company. After all, companies are made of people. This is why it is important to check on the people who are a part of this company.

Also, the people who we interact with, especially the people we will be communicating from time to time during work will definitely influence us in one way or another whether we like it or not. That’s why we should look at the people working in the company we want to work for.

Great Company Values

In my observation, most people don’t look at the values of the company they are applying to. This was one of my mistakes. I applied to a company without knowing and asking their company values. It was really hard to work with the management and people who doesn’t uphold any core values to serve as a guide on how to do things in the company.

If a company doesn’t have any core values, whether they pay is 2 to 3 times higher than your current job, don’t accept it. Monetary gains can never satisfy us.

Great Leadership

If the company has great people working there and upholds great company values, we should expect that the company has great leaders leading the company to achieve its vision and mission.

Great leadership is everything because it can make or break the company. After all, it is the job of the leaders to point the direction of the company in the right direction.

Also, not all leadership tasks are just work-related. Leaders go far beyond that. Leaders should really look after their people to see how there are doing, personally. I call this another leadership task because I believe leaders should be intentional in checking their people on how they are currently doing.

Type of Work

The type of work that we do in the company can take us to new heights or can hinder us from growing and attaining even more feats. We need to make sure that the type of work that we are doing is not going to be a dead-end job.

We need to think of the long-term benefits of doing our work, not just the work that we will be doing in the meantime.

Financially Worth It

Of course, one of the reasons we work hard is to earn money, right? The company we are working for must recognize the work that we do and compensate us well enough for us to live the way we want to live our own personal lives.

Of course, our salaries should be also dependent on how good and effective are we are for the growth of the company.

Note

Not one company can be perfect, but we should look for companies that can uphold the things I have mentioned here. I believe that if a company misses at least one of these things, its employees will definitely look for other companies to work for.
