What Would Make Me Switch to Windows

Ever since I used a Mac, I never really wanted to use a Windows PC ever again. And it pains me every time I need to use my work laptop.

Redesigned Windows UI/UX

I hated the User Interface of Windows. I don’t like its sharp corners, fonts, and start menu. The start menu is ugly in my opinion. I think it needs a redesign. I am wishing that the day would come that Microsoft would also be known for its well-designed products from software to hardware.

New File System

Windows File System is crap. The file system is not easy to use. It’s slow and I encounter a lot of problems when the file path is too long. And the Windows Command Prompt and Power Shell are, I think, ugly too. Using UNIX based terminals are a lot easier to use and people who are familiar with using terminals won’t have to learn how to use Window’s Power Shell and Command Prompts.

Controlled Hardware

There are a lot of hardware manufacturers like Dell, HP, Acer that put Windows software into their products. But, the problem is that to make a profit, they put they often compromise on putting low-performance hardware just to bring the cost down. The problem with this approach is that the overall user experience using the product is affected because the hardware can’t really deliver a pleasant user experience. Yes, the product becomes “affordable” to a certain point but you can’t really be productive using it which defeats the point of buying the product in the first place.

I believe every computer we buy should be fast, easy to use, and reliable regardless of the price. No hardware company should ship junk just for profit. If Microsoft would start controlling the hardware specification for Windows, then it would change the whole computer industry once more for the better.

The market would have no choice but to adapt to the hardware standards that Microsoft will mandate since Windows has the majority of the market. There is no other operating system that can drive this initiative.

Just Have One Windows Variant

I think it’s stupid that Windows has a lot of variations, from Education, Single Language, all the way up to enterprise. It’s very stupid in my opinion.

I think it would be better if there is only one edition for Windows for the consumer market so that consumers won’t have to do painstaking research on what variant of Windows should they get for their machines.

Conclusion

I hope the people at Microsft re-envisions Windows for us all in a way that regardless of what product their OS is running on, it will provide a very satisfying and smooth experience.
